Ripple VS No ripple
You'll know it by the tingle feel you get and this is almost always found in AC powered foot baths. Although most have a low ripple, some have no ripple at all
Most have low ripple and only a few of the foot spas have a no ripple at all. Most lower amperage models have a low ripple. Usually the more expensive foot spas have high end electrical supplies and have no ripple.

I always find out what the power supply is as my first question to a dealer. If they have an expensive foot bath and its AC powered and they are charging the same price as the expensive DC powered models, then I know they are inflating their price on a cheap Chinese import. Many of the cheap models cost 200 to 600 dollars and they are almost exactly the same thing when you compare the specs. Not the specs that they say when they say it will last 50 sessions but after reviewing the arrays and having people over the years since 2008 when I first started reviewing foot spas. When they say 50 sessions and the arrays deteriorate after 30 sessions and the last 20 sessions only have half or less of the bubbling that happened with the new arrays... this is why I don't follow specs most manufacturers put on their site but from actual review that I did over the entire maximum rated session time per array and mostly from health practitioners that use these in their clinics who monitor the sessions of their clients and tell me when they have used certain models and say they are junk and they tell me which ones are the most cost effective that last the longest with their arrays.

This is not just what I think is the best ionic foot bath because I like it but from what residential customers claim when they have returned models for not working like they claim and those that order arrays from their same model over years and years. This is when I know which ionic foot spas hold up over time and which break down. Some have higher amperage but the arrays can't handle it for the rated time of the array. Sure, an array can last 100 sessions but if the amperage and voltage is high, then its oxidizing the metal faster and the session times is no where near 100 sessions. If the amperage is low around 1 to 2 amps, then sure the session times can be higher (see my treatment times page)

Depending on the voltage of the body, one doesn't have to get the highest amperage ionic foot bath. If the person's body has a high level of positive ions which makes their voltage lower, then a higher amperage ionic foot spa might be more suitable. It all depends on the polarity of the body's starting voltage. See my voltage page to learn more about this. And I always recommend knowing your body voltage before getting a high voltage and amperage ionic foot bath. The last thing someone wants is to get too many negative ions that the body voltage goes up too high. This is why the higher amperage foot baths are off the counter and sold by discretion. If someone stays in these too long it can be too pulling on the body and detox symptoms can occur making it hard for the body to process all the wastes that are being pulled out of the fat storages in the body. Pulling the toxins out of the body brings them out of homeostasis until they can be eliminated and if the body is not ready to eliminate due to a toxic gut or needing a liver or gallbladder flush, there can be problems. I hope I am not scaring anyone put I hear the stories when people buy the wrong foot spa. This is not a time for trial and error when someone is sick.

Does the power supply unit say “low ripple” or say nothing at all? Ripple is how much AC (alternating current) is flowing from the power supply back into the array and bath riding along the DC (direct current). AC current has a natural pulse rate of 60 hertz and is an unhealthy frequency electromagnetic pollution for the body. Most footbaths have a low or even high AC ripple because the manufacturer has higher costs to make sure their power supply is made to reduce or stop AC ripple. Most power supplies if they don't say “Low Ripple” are usually just that. There are only a few foot bath models that modify their power supply so that there is NO Ripple.

Why is this important? Because besides being a harmful 60hz frequency for the body, it halts or majorly slows the effects of electrolysis of the array into the water which can majorly effect the therapeutic effect of the foot bath. Even as little as 2 volts of ripple can have a negative effect.
